Established as a charitable project of MOSA - The Medical Oxygen Society of the Americas (www.mosao2.org) - at the beginning of 2010, the AfricaMedica.org, as its name clearly suggests, was designated to promote and direct, as well as actively participate into medical aid of any kind for the different areas in most acute need on the African continent. There are of course many very important and worthy charities today, supported by generous private individuals and companies directed to an enormous variety of needs of our contemporary world.

True to our motto:

“We cannot create life ...

... but we can save life”

We at MOSA realized that the deepest need for a charity movement today constitutes without any doubt the catastrophic health condition predominant across Africa, not just a region afflicted by some natural disaster or manmade conflict, not even just a country in desperate circumstances but an entire continent, home to a significant percentage of the entire mankind.

Accordingly to the UN and the World Health Organization (WHO) the degree of unsolved health problems such as epidemics, malnutrition, children and infants mortality, and “incurable” degenerative disease have reached now a stage in many aspects totally out of control

A multitude of causes related or not to the present social conditions in these countries, have been escalated furthermore by the climatic changes and global warming.  Drought, seasonal-changes, uncontrolled water conditions afflicting humans and domesticated animals together with manmade conflicts of unimaginable proportions can all be translated and reduced to one single definition of disaster:  the lack of food and clean water, the generalized malnutrition and in many areas even starvation can be, simply put, the ultimate origin of the today’s continental health decline and mortality.

Even regions of relative stability in the past enjoying established medical structure for many decades have been ravaged by conflicts and full scale civil wars, with the classical result of total obliteration of any functioning medical services

Recent information shows that vast regions and even countries in Africa have less than one physician to over 100,000 population, with specialties as dentistry and neonatal care totally non-existent.  There are no news, not for one single day, across the Western countries in which information about unimaginable hardships on the African continent are not present on the TV screens and in the press.

Recent studies correlate more clearly now than before the epidemic of AIDS and other super diseases to the equally epidemic malnutrition and of course the non-existent hygiene conditions.  Virus mutations will show themselves relevant and life threatening in a population deprived of the elemental metabolic needs and lack of medical assistance.  It is pointless to continue enumerating the countless reasons why a medical charity for Africa imposes itself before any other form of charity.

We established AfricaMedica.org as a humanitarian appeal to all medical professionals we are contacting on behalf of MOSA, to participate and help us in this bottomless need.  We ask all these professionals, present and future members of MOSA, to spread the word around to professional friends and colleagues about AfricaMedica.org.

What are the goals of AfricaMedica.org?

Simply to bring much needed medical equiment, effective medicine and cost-effective practices to Africa.

How Can We Help?

There are numerous ways small and modest attempts can develop into a grand charity. In our privileged society we tend to forget how much medical equipment is discarded, stored, not utilized and forgotten.  We do not realize how enormously beneficial such, for us, useless equipment, as well as medical materials, medicine, supplies, etc. can be in a country where there is absolutely nothing. On the other hand, establishing a simple medical facility in an African country or region and supplying it from here could represent an operating point for many volunteer medical enthusiasts, willing to spend just a few weeks of active charitable vacation on the African continent.

It has been mentioned in a recent dental magazine, that once one has seen the effect of his charity vacation on totally deprived African patient, he will return again and again for such a humanitarian vacation, bringing his healing skills to the most needful patients. Our AfricaMedica.org charity will organize such vacations for our MOSA members and non-members alike, for any medical groups and individuals inclined to help.

How Can You help?

At this step on its way, AfricaMedica.org needs PUBLICITY.  Let your professional colleagues and friends know about us.  The first and most important help our charity needs to help the millions in distress is again PUBLICITY.  The medical and support, the true reason for, will AfricaMedica.org come to be reality due to more and more medical professionals knowing about it, by itself. One important media and communication area of activity for AfricaMedica.org shall constitute in the future the dissemination of information about certain areas of Africa. Statistics and facts, reports and articles will be published on our website ... www.AfricaMedica.org

An enormously significant project shall manifest for AfricaMedica.org as the sponsorship of medical doctors and personnel from different regions of the African continent, enabling them to spend time in the medical facilities of their interest here in the US.  Our MOSA members and non-members alike operating such medical facilities will be most welcome to inform us if such sponsorship may be realistic in their case.  AfricaMedica.org will address in this matter medical institutes such as hospitals, universities and so on willing to accept visiting medical personnel for orientation and information reasons. Such visiting colleagues will bring back to their home tremendous help and new ways of helping their people.

In today’s time of economic challenges and all kinds of hardships threatening the Western civilization it becomes imperative for AfricaMedica.org to develop new ways of charitable possibilities and utilize any available aspects of direct or indirect assistance, at the same time considering however that the charitable movement in general has been substantially restricted worldwide due to diminishing donation.

We are the medical profession, therefore we have the knowledge necessary to help even though funds and monetary donations are now more scarce than before.  People in Africa do not have to go without help just because we are going through a world recession ... this being stated here as AfricaMedica.org's position.

This is why probably our charity AfricaMedica.org is today more important than ever and this is why we need you now to join us.
